Wow…this has been a heck of trip. I have been sleeping like a bear in hibernation, and was getting rather frustrated by the whole thing until hubby reminded me of all I have been through. I guess after my surgery, ER trip and the subsequent flu my body was just “done”. I am feeling well so far this morning, and am hoping to actually be awake a good part of today. Wow.
I pray that everyone in the path of this latest winter storm is staying safe and warm. We have gotten a bit of wind and rain here, and the temps are down a bit, though nothing like what most are dealing with. I look forward to warmer days later this coming week.
On a totally different topic. About two weeks ago I saw a documentary about J.D. Salinger on PBS and was really intrigued by this reclusive writer. I never read The Catcher in the Rye while in school but felt it was “necessary” reading, so I picked it up at the book store this week. Well, so far…I’m not impressed. What is the big deal with this book? It was around page 5 and I was already thinking if Holden Caulfield said “…and all” one more time I would shoot myself. I am hoping to get into the story at some point, but I am beginning to see why Salinger went into hiding. Hmm…I think I’ll finish Your Sacred Self by Wayne W. Dyer first.
I am so grateful to be on the upswing finally. Being upright and awake will be a nice change of pace. Hugs, Peace and Love all!
Okay, I laughed at you finishing Wayne first. I find some of his books hard going and I have quite a few of them on the go right now lol

Glad you are enjoying it.
I loved his movie “The Shift” and his audio of “I Am”.

I am still on “Your Sacred Self” ..I originally got it from the library, but wanted to really study it, so I bought it. I loved “Wishes Fulfilled” and “Believing is Seeing”…he rocks!

My next one of his is “I can see clearly now”. I have had it sitting beside my bed since last August when I bought it at a Hay House writers workshop in Melbourne. He was supposed to speak there but he became unwell.

I am so happy to see that you are on the mend 😀 The Catcher in the Rye was required reading at my high school and I remember liking it and relating it. I can’t for the life of me remember much about it, but I do remember having several discussions about it during English class.

I think the key, Kim, is to picture reading it when you were in high school.

That’s just it Mark! I’m as open to “the generation” as the next person..it just doesn’t do it for me though. Oh well.

On to the next classic, Kim. I am glad you are feeling better, good enough to post again. Yay!

I’ve never read “Catcher”, or “Portnoy’s Complaint”, or any of the so-called “coming of age” novels. You are better off reading Dr. Dyer. You will survive and I hope your Spring is fantastic.

I try to read the “classics” but yeah, Salinger is a big disappointment. It is mostly the language and style I am not liking…Yes, Dr. Dyer is a much better read. 🙂

I think it was when that book came out that it made it “groundbreaking,” maybe the language and the dysfunction – I don’t know. It still sells 250,00 copies a year! Like you, though, I wasn’t really impressed. Peace . . .

I’m with you on Salinger. He’s on my list of writers I think I should like but don’t really.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but man, it was like reading a 6-year-old’s writing. I am going to try and finish it just to say I have read it, but it sucks so far!
